Final Exam Preparation

It's that time of year again!  Now that we have planned your study schedule for each exam, it's time you learn some helpful tips for test taking.  The website below has a great presentation that I find very easy to understand and is a quick read:

On test day it is important to remember the following things:

*Eat a good breakfast! It helps your brain remember information :)  Really, it helps!
*Dress in layers in case your test room is really hot or really cold.
*Once you have the exam, flip through the entire test so you know what to expect and can pace yourself properly.

*READ THE DIRECTIONS CAREFULLY for each section. This step can mean the difference between passing or failing your exam. 

*Multiple Choice Questions: Answer all easy questions first, and come back to the hard ones later... WHY?  You may find the answers to harder questions later on in another test question or reading passage.  You will also have more information which will help you with the "process of elimination" method.

*Essay Questions: Take a few minutes to write down the important points or information you want to talk about in each question.  That's called an outline, and it helps you to organize your thoughts before you start writing.

*Check over your test when you are complete to make sure everything has been answered before turning in the test!

*Once complete, please make sure you sit quietly so that you do not distract others.  Bring a magazine or a book with you to keep yourself busy after the exam is over (ask the teacher if it's okay if you can read it).

Online HSA Prep options

 HSA exams are quickly approaching, and as you know all Maryland high school students must pass all 4 of the exams in order to graduate with a diploma.

Let's give thanks

Thanksgiving is at the end of this week.  We would like for you to write a thank you letter in paragraph form.  Monday, you will write the rough draft and hand it in.  Tuesday you will write your final draft.  On Wednesday, we will hand back to you your final printed copy for you to deliver to a person of your choosing.

Maybe there is a teacher who has gone above and beyond for you this year or any year in the past and you'd really like to thank them.  Maybe it's someone else in this school building, who fills another role who you'd like to thank.  Maybe you'll write to your coach.  Maybe you'll write to a best friend or a family member.

Thank you notes are a rare, but powerful thing.  There is no better gift that you can give to someone you care about.

The final draft of this assignment may be typed OR handwritten neatly and handed in on Tuesday.  You may include pictures or clip art on your note.  This assignment is worth 20 points.

The skill of typing is the most important skill you can learn in today's computer oriented world.  From the checker in the supermarket to a CEO in a corporation, typing is a necessary skill.  The earlier you master typing as a skill, the more prepared you will be for a successful life in whatever job you choose in your life after high school... let's not forget that typing also makes your writing assignments go much more quickly!
